JOB TITLE:  PART-TIME ACADEMIC COACH & PROCTOR                                    DEPARTMENT:  TABLE ROCK CAMPUS

SALARY RANGE: $13.00 - $18.00 PER HOUR                                                  FLSA: NON-EXEMPT

 

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR:  Coordinator of Academic Support (TRC)

SCHEDULE DETAILS:  Part-time (not to exceed 19.5 hours per week)

 

Position Summary

The Part-time Academic Coach works with students to support them both in their coursework and their development as learners. In addition to subject area proficiency, this position requires the capability of negotiating multiple subjects in a dynamic setting; the ability to comprehend and execute verbal and written directions; the competencies of sound judgment and initiative when working in the absence of direct supervision; and the capacity to maintain confidentially within the Learning Lab. In addition to Coaching duties, you will serve as a Proctor for Testing. The Part-time Proctor ensures the integrity of all exam processes in Testing Services, in accordance with OTC policies and procedures. The position interacts with test-takers, faculty, and staff, both internal and external. The Academic Coach & Proctor will actively collaborate with their TRC Academic Support team.

 

Essential Job Duties

  • Provide comprehensive academic coaching for students in math, writing, sciences, computer information, study strategies, or other subjects, based on qualifications.
  • Guide students in performing research for their coursework in the appropriate subject(s).
  • Assist with the training of new teammates according to the training guidelines, based on experience.
  • Conduct themselves in a manner that promotes professionalism within the Learning Lab and on campus.
  • Ensure the integrity of all exam processes in Testing Services. This includes strict attention to exam security, check-in protocols, exam proctoring requirements, and appropriate exam delivery. 
  • Establish and maintain a low-stress environment that promotes test-takers’ confidence and success.
  • Comply with college policies and procedures and operate in accordance with OTC policies, Testing Services proctor expectations, and standards for external testing.
  • Communicate clearly and execute duties in a prompt and professional manner.
  • Maintain detailed records and contribute to efficacy of services.
  • Exhibit exemplary attendance and punctuality.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • “A” or “B” in First Year Composition (for English tutors) or College Algebra (for Math tutors) from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning.
  • Potential to identify, trouble shoot, and/or resolve basic computer hardware and software issues.
  • Utilize technology for professional productivity, especially Microsoft Office Suite and Outlook.
  • Ability to comply with strict guidelines and operate in a detail-oriented environment.
  • Competency in following written or oral instructions with minimal supervision.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, as well as interpersonal skills. 
  • Work with a diverse and dynamic team.

Preferred Knowledge Skills & Abilities

  • Associate degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning.
  • Experience working within an academic setting or in customer service.
  • Experience with proctored testing or in a testing center.
  • Experience with a Learning Management System, such as Blackboard or Canvas.
  • Previous involvement with academic coaching.
  • Flexible availability.
