JOB TITLE:  FACILITY HVAC TECHNICIAN I                                                              DEPARTMENT:  FACILITIES & GROUNDS 

SALARY RANGE:  $43,680 – $49,920                                                                    FLSA:  NON-EXEMPT

 

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR:  College HVAC Energy Supervisor

SCHEDULE DETAILS:  Full-time/12-month position/PEERS

 

Position Summary

The Facility HVAC Technician I is responsible for performing skilled technical work in providing a continuous supply of heat and air conditioning to ensure a controlled environment at multiple locations, with a heavy emphasis on boiler upkeep, repair and maintenance.

Essential Job Duties

  • Primary duties include Hydronic heating boilers and pump repairs and Hydronic lifecycle replacement coordination.
  • Performs a thorough preventative schedule of HVAC and kitchen equipment repair to minimize breakdowns and emergency repairs.
  • Equipment repairs include air handling equipment, boilers, chillers, air compressors, refrigerators, freezers, ice makers, pumps, and high- and low-pressure refrigeration equipment, ovens, stoves, fryers, walk-ins, and reach-ins.
  • Identifies, troubleshoots, locates, and repairs equipment and components which requires:
    • The ability to interpret blueprints and wiring diagrams.
    • The ability to use a multimeter, service gauges, torch, vacuum pump, recovery machine, leak testers, and various other equipment and tools.
  • Assists in maintenance activities to provide a continuous supply of heat, electrical power, and air conditioning required for operations.
  • Lists the equipment and supplies required for operations and to meet emergency situations.
  • Reports and corrects safety hazards.
  • Willingness to work outside of normal business hours and weekends as needed to complete projects, emergency calls, and/or snow removal.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including assisting with moving furniture, heavy equipment, and supplies, snow removal, attending college functions, serving on committees, and attending community events.
  • Conducts a planned program of preventive maintenance.
  • Subject to emergency call-in. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Non-Essential Job Duties

  • Maintain storage area for supplies and equipment.
  • Capacity to order supplies, equipment, and materials as needed.
  • Attend employee in-service programs to improve work performance.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Verifiable work experience with boilers, pumps, and repairs of same.
  • Principles, procedures, methods, and equipment involved in facilities maintenance.
  • Boiler repair/replacement/maintenance experience
  • Plan and organize daily work orders, follow oral and written instructions.
  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Read and interpret a variety of information such as manuals and schematic drawings.
  • Accurately document and maintain appropriate records, logs, and reports.
  • Deal effectively and courteously with staff, students, and the general public.
  • Present an overall professional image of the college.
  • Perform essential functions of the job without posing a direct threat to the safety of others.
  • Perform effectively as a member of the team in carrying out the mission statement of the college.
  • Must possess a valid Missouri Motor Operators License, must possess EPA Refrigeration License. 

 

Preferred Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • High School Diploma or equivalent and 5 years of verifiable employment in Heating-Ventilation-Air Conditioning or have completed an AAS Degree in HVAC.
  • Experience working within a collegiate setting.

Physical: Performs bending, squatting, climbing, twisting, kneeling, and reaching both to ground and overhead. Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds and/or push and pull up to 150 pounds as required. Must be able to hold and grip objects. Possess the ability to operate a computer keyboard and mouse. Pass physical.       

Both indoor and outdoor working environment with exposure to extreme weather conditions; susceptible to mechanical and electrical hazards associated with facilities and light equipment; may be exposed to hazardous chemicals and other safety hazards issues dealing with extreme noise, poor lighting and ventilation, fumes and orders. Must be able to work in a confined space as required.
