JOB TITLE: INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGNER DEPARTMENT: CENTER FOR ACADEMIC INNOVATION
SALARY RANGE: $60,000-$70,000 FLSA: EXEMPT
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Director of Instructional Support
SCHEDULE DETAILS: Full-time/12 month position/PEERS
Position Summary
The Instructional Designer works closely with faculty and others to assist in the development of instructional content and to enhance teaching and learning with technology. Some primary responsibilities include design assistance, training, collaborating with faculty, staff, and students in the implementation of technological tools and methods that promote quality and pedagogically sound delivery of courses and content.
Essential Job Duties
- Apply professional instructional design practices to aid in effective course design and assist in the selection of appropriate technologies and tools to achieve academic goals.
- Consult with faculty and staff to determine methods for delivery of course content and effective use of technology that promotes learner engagement and knowledge acquisition.
- Assist faculty and staff in the development of multimedia content and oversee content production.
- Facilitate and manage course and program development projects and workflows, manage schedules and project plans, provide project management oversight, keep others informed of progress, and coordinate team meetings as needed.
- Monitor course progress, resolve reported post-launch issues, collect and analyze feedback on course performance and needs for revision, and provide continuous instructional support during the instructional term.
- Consult with subject matter experts on best practices, review written work, provide direction and feedback, suggest strategies for continuous improvement, and assist with course revisions as needed.
- Ensure that educational quality standards, intellectual property guidelines, and ADA requirements are met in design projects.
- Integrate ethical and pedagogically appropriate uses of generative AI tools into instructional design practices to enhance content development, streamline workflows, and support faculty innovation in teaching and assessment.
- Engage in positive, productive, professional, and interpersonal relationships with faculty and staff, and work collaboratively with others demonstrating diplomacy and tact in all communications.
- Actively seek out knowledge of new and emerging pedagogical approaches and learning technologies.
- Research and evaluate emerging educational technologies to foster innovative and creative approaches to teaching.
- Assist visitors and staff who provide eLearning support as needed.
- Troubleshoot technical course design issues with faculty and staff.
- Exhibit exemplary attendance and punctuality.
- Comply with college policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned, including attending college functions, serving on committees and attending community events.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning.
- Experience using generative AI technologies (e.g., ChatGPT, Copilot, etc.) and their application in instructional design, content creation, and educational assessment.
- At least one year of experience with a Learning Management System (Canvas, Blackboard, D2L, Moodle)
- Basic HTML, video editing, and graphic design skills.
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment, organizing and prioritizing work assignments to effectively manage multiple projects, with a diverse, creative team under tight deadlines.
- Ability to work well with others.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to use information technology for professional productivity (such as Generative AI, Microsoft Office Suite, Canva, etc.).
Preferred Knowledge Skills & Abilities
- Master’s degree in education, instructional design, or instructional technology from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning.
- Background or experience in the field of Health Sciences preferred.
- Thorough knowledge of educational methodologies, adult learning theories, instructional design principles and learning strategies, including needs analysis, backwards design, learning outcomes and assessment design, and instructional approaches including lecture, discussion, activities, projects, etc.
- Thorough knowledge of the technical tools and platforms required to achieve the delivery of engaging and media-rich online learning content, and of trends in the use and effectiveness of educational technology and learning.
- Experience with Ellucian Colleague student information system.
- Experience working within a collegiate setting.
