SCHEDULE DETAILS: Full-time/12-month position /PEERS

 

Position Summary

The Assistant Supervisor of College Custodial and Grounds assist the Supervisor of College Custodial and Grounds in planning, organizing, supervising, and evaluating custodial and grounds maintenance operations for campus facilities and outdoor areas. This position helps ensure that college buildings, grounds, and related facilities are clean, safe, attractive, and maintained in compliance with institutional standards, safety regulations, and environmental practices as well as helping provide training for all custodial and grounds staff.

 

Essential Job Duties

  • Provide oversight for grounds keeping and custodial activities at various locations.
  • Assist in conducting regular inspections of facilities and grounds to ensure cleanliness, safety, and operational standards are met.
  • Work with the Supervisor of College Custodial and Grounds in making sure performance and expectations of custodial and grounds employees are being met.
  • Work with the Supervisor of College Custodial and Grounds to implement annual custodial and grounds budgets.
  • Keep up with the new products and evaluate if the new product is something we would want to implement.
  • Work with the building leads to make sure all buildings and building activities are covered each day.
  • Assist the building leads and the Supervisor of College Custodial and Grounds develop and train staff on custodial to utilize and maintain appropriate equipment and tools including vacuums, dust/wet mop, buffer, floor scrubber, carpet extractor, lifts etc.
  • Assist the Lead Groundskeeper and Supervisor of College Custodial and Grounds in developing and training staff on grounds to properly utilize appropriate equipment and tools including chain saws, blowers, weed eaters, mowers, power washers, skid steers, tractors, dump trailers, ect.
  • Maintain records related to staffing, work orders, inspections, equipment maintenance, and supply usage.
  • Help support college events.
  • Participate in hiring, onboarding, coaching, and evaluating staff.
  • Ensure that all labels are read and understood for mixing chemicals according to instructions.
  • Ensure that all safety procedures are being followed and scheduling training for all employees.
  • Monitor inventory levels and assist with ordering custodial and grounds supplies.
  • Remove ice and snow from walkways, steps, and parking lots.
  • Make sure all areas of the campus have a clean, inviting atmosphere for all faculty and guests.
  • Report and correct safety hazards.
  • Exhibit exemplary attendance and punctuality.
  • Comply with college policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including attending college functions, serving on committees and attending community events.

 

Non-Essential Job Duties

  • Maintain supplies and communicate with vendors to order more quantities.
  • Operate company vehicles to complete assignments.
  • Maintain neat and orderly area’s for supplies and equipment.
  • Work with security personnel to ensure buildings are safe and secure.
  • Report damage to college property.
  • Properly dispose of hazardous chemicals or waste.
  • Develop procedures for inventory control, note discrepancies and turn in all packing slips.
  • Attend employee in-service programs to improve work performance.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Three years of previous experience in custodial duties and/or maintenance/groundskeeping.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 75 lbs.
  • Ability to push and pull up to 100 lbs.
  • Two years of experience in a supervisory role.
  • Ability to utilize appropriate hand-controlled tools, ride on tools and safety equipment.
  • Valid driver’s license and approval from the college’s insurance company
  • Ability to document and maintain appropriate records, logs and reports.
  • Ability to work well with others.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills for work orders, inventory, timeclock, etc..
  • Be flexible with your hours when needed including evening, weekend, holiday, or emergency response work.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and vendors.
  • Ability to use information technology for professional productivity (such as Microsoft Office Suite).

 

Preferred Knowledge Skills & Abilities

  • Four years of experience in a supervisory role.
  • Four years of experience as a groundskeeper and/or custodian.
  • National Career Readiness Certificate.
  • Experience with Colleague.
  • Experience working within a collegiate setting.

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, and walk for prolonged periods of time; use hands to finger/touch, handle, or feel; and talk or hear; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard.  The employee must be able to move around and about in their area, and operate a computer as needed.  Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to hold and carry objects up to 50 pounds; to pull, drag, or carry persons from danger.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.

 

Environment: Work is performed in a standard office setting with frequent interruptions and distractions.  Requires extended periods of time viewing computer monitor or standing; may require adjustment of work schedule to include evenings and/or weekends.  Work is also performed outside exposed to the elements.
