JOB TITLE: PART-TIME SAFETY AND SECURITY OFFICER DEPARTMENT: SAFETY AND SECURITY
SALARY RANGE: $20.60/HOURLY FLSA: NON-EXEMPT
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Safety and Security Supervisor
SCHEDULE DETAILS: Part-time/not to exceed 19.5 hours a week
Position Summary
The Safety and Security Officer performs security, loss prevention, parking and traffic control duties within assigned areas of the College campus or center. This position also responds to emergency situations, including providing CPR/AED and First Aid.
Essential Job Duties
- Respond to dispatched calls for service and/or assist in responding to security, fire, medical and weather-related emergencies, or natural disasters.
- Perform self-initiated activities such as crime prevention, traffic control and parking enforcement.
- Provides assistance as requested within the capability of the department to provide (e.g., battery jump starts for dead car batteries, use of telephone, assisting emergency personnel responding to emergencies on campus etc.).
- Patrol campus property to maintain a safe and secure campus environment.
- Enforce College parking and traffic regulations.
- Conduct visual surveys while on patrol for potentially dangerous or unsafe areas and conditions, routinely inspect fire prevention equipment, conduct fire inspections for hazardous materials or conditions, and making on-the-spot corrections if possible or reporting the conditions to an appropriate authority for correction.
- Must be proficient in the use and maintenance of firearms, defensive tactics, and personal protection equipment.
- Certified (or be able become certified) in a recognized CPR/AED and First Aid program.
- Perform emergency notifications to employees, students, and visitors on campus via the OTC Alert System and other means in a timely manner.
- Prepare and submit comprehensive reports as required.
- Perform on-call duties, carry the on-call phone and be able to respond in a timely manner as needed.
- Brief the subsequent shift regarding incidents or special events.
- Support the Safety and Security Department by serving as a dispatcher or Officer in Charge for the day as needed.
- Remain competent and current through self-directed professional reading, attending professional development courses, and attending training and/or courses as required by the Safety and Security Department.
- Contribute to the overall success and morale of the Safety and Security Department by adhering to the Safety and Security Department Standard Operating Procedures.
- Comply with college policies and procedures.
- Exhibit exemplary attendance and punctuality.
- Perform other duties as assigned, including attending college functions, including serving on committees and attending community events.
Non-Essential Job Duties
- Remain competent and current through self-directed professional reading, attending professional development courses, and attending training and/or courses as required by the College Director of Safety and Security.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Two years employment as a Safety and Security Officer at an accredited institution of higher learning; or three years employment as a Law Enforcement Officer or Fire Marshal with a public agency; or three years military service as a Military Law Enforcement Officer with an honorable discharge.
- Successful completion of a recognized law enforcement training academy, military law enforcement school or otherwise qualified under the Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act (LESOA - HR218).
- Must be proficient in the use and maintenance of firearms, defensive tactics, and personal protection equipment.
- Ability to communicate effectively - dispatch and receive calls over the radio in calm, clear, concise and professional manner.
- Certified or be able become certified in a recognized CPR/AED and First Aid program.
- Ability to work weekdays, weekends, nights and holidays; be on-call as needed.
- Possess a valid Missouri Class E driver’s license or CDL, with good driving record.
- Ability to travel between OTC locations as needed for assignments.
- Maintain a professional appearance.
- Ability to work without direct supervision.
- Ability to hold and carry objects up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to pull, drag, or carry persons from danger.
- Ability to identify license plates, color of vehicles and other information from appropriate distances.
- Ability to work well with others.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Strong time management skills.
- Ability to use information technology for professional productivity (such as Microsoft Office Suite).
Preferred Knowledge Skills & Abilities
- Associate degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning.
- Possess a Missouri POST Class A certification from a recognized law enforcement academy.
- Five years of employment as a Law Enforcement Officer or Fire Marshall with a public agency; or five years military service as a Military Law Enforcement Officer with an honorable discharge.
- Experience with Colleague.
- Experience working within a collegiate setting.

Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, and walk for prolonged periods of time; use hands to finger/touch, handle, or feel; and talk or hear; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard. The employee must be able to move around and about their area, and operate a computer as needed. Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to hold and carry objects up to 50 pounds; to pull, drag, or carry persons from danger. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
Environment: Work is performed in a standard office setting with frequent interruptions and distractions. Requires extended periods of time viewing computer monitor or standing; may require adjustment of work schedule to include evenings and/or weekends. Work is also performed outside exposed to the elements.
