JOB TITLE: PART-TIME LEARNING LAB ASSISTANT DEPARTMENT: MIDDLE COLLEGE
SALARY RANGE: $20.00-$24.00 PER HOUR FLSA: NON-EXEMPT
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Middle College Director
SCHEDULE DETAILS: Part-time (not to exceed 19.5 hours per week)/ This is grant-funded with a limited term appointment.
Position Summary
The Part-time learning lab instructor works with students to support them both in coursework and their development as learners. In addition to subject area proficiency, this position requires the capability of negotiating multiple subjects in a dynamic setting; the ability to execute credit recovery, Canvas, and teaching study skills curriculum.
Essential Job Duties
- Provide comprehensive tutoring for students in study strategies, or other subjects, based on qualifications.
- Guide students in performing research for their coursework in the appropriate tutored subject(s).
- Provide credit recovery as a resource for students.
- Conduct themselves in a manner that promotes professionalism within the Learning Lab and on campus.
- Exhibit exemplary attendance and punctuality.
- Comply with college policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Teaching certificate, sub certificate, or DESE certification
- Ability to work well with others.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, as well as interpersonal skills.
- Ability to use information technology for professional productivity (such as Microsoft Office Suite).
Preferred Knowledge Skills & Abilities
- Background working with at-risk students.
- Experience working with study skills curriculum or credit recovery in Canvas.
- Previous involvement with academic tutoring.
- Experience working within a collegiate setting.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT: (The conditions herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.)
Environment: Work is performed primarily in a standard office setting with frequent interruptions and distractions. Requires extended periods of time viewing computer monitor or standing; may require adjustment of schedule to include some evening and/or weekends; may encounter occasional exposure to inclement weather during travel.
Physical: Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard.
