JOB TITLE: PART-TIME MASCOT                                                               DEPARTMENT: OFFICE OF STUDENT ENGAGEMENT

SALARY RANGE: $50.00 PER HOUR                                                          FLSA: NON-EXEMPT

 

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Student Engagement Coordinator

 

SCHEDULE DETAILS:  Part-time as needed/Not to exceed 19.5 hours per week (Must have a flexible schedule – will need an occasional day, night, and weekend availability)

 

Position Summary

As the official performer for Ozzy the Eagle, you will represent Ozarks Tech at on-campus and community events, embodying school spirit and enthusiasm. This role requires creativity, physical stamina, and a commitment to engaging audiences of all ages. This position has a varied schedule with approximately 1-3 appearances per month. Appearances are a minimum of one hour. 

 

Essential Job Duties

  • Perform as Ozzy the Eagle at college events, athletic games, and external appearances.
  • Engage with diverse audiences while maintaining the mascot's character and personality.
  • Use gestures, props, and body language to communicate effectively without speaking.
  • Adhere to safety and performance guidelines to ensure the mascot costume is used appropriately.
  • Serve as an ambassador of school spirit, reflecting the college’s values and mission.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to perform in a full-body costume for extended periods (up to 2 hours).
  • Physical stamina to engage in high-energy activities such as dancing, jumping, and walking.
  • Creativity and improvisation skills to interact with various audiences.
  • Ability to follow non-verbal performance directions and embody the mascot’s character.
  • Comfortable working in varying conditions (outdoor events, crowded environments).
  • Flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, and occasional travel.
  • Ability to work well with others.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

 

Preferred Knowledge Skills & Abilities

  • Prior experience in performance, theater, dance, or mascot roles.
  • Customer service or public engagement background.
  • Familiarity with Ozarks Tech and its student culture.

 

Hiring Process

·         Step 1: Application Submission

·         Step 2: Initial Phone Interview (30 Minutes)

·         Step 3: In Person Practical Assessment & Performance Audition (45 Minutes-1 Hour)

  • Costume Fitting: Ensure the candidate fits comfortably into the mascot suit and can move effectively. Confirm candidate can lift the mascot head and other costume parts.
  • Activities:
    • Movement test (e.g., dancing, waving, cheering).
    • Character improvisation (e.g., responding to scenarios in character).
    • Freestyle routine (30 seconds to music).

 

Physical Requirements

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand and walk; use hands to finger/touch, handle or feel; and talk or hear. The employee must be able to move around and about their area, and operate a computer as needed. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision. To fit in the costume, individuals must be between 5’7” and 6’2”.
