JOB TITLE:  MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELOR                                                                DEPARTMENT:  COUNSELING SERVICES

SALARY RANGE:  LEVEL I-A, 50,000 - 55,000                                                         FLSA: EXEMPT

 

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR:  Coordinator of Counseling Services
SCHEDULE DETAILS:
Full-time (Office hours at 7:30am-5:30 pm Monday through Thursday and 8:00am-4:30pm on Friday.  Flexibility to work any shift within these hours is required.  Occasional evening and weekend work is also required) – 12-month position/PSRS.

 

Position Summary

OTC’s counselor provides individual mental health counseling services to currently enrolled post-secondary students. The counselor is an active member of the Ozarks Tech Student Care Team and is also responsible for prevention and outreach programming on issues primarily related to mental health and substance use. The counselor carries out their responsibilities as an integral member of OTC Cares, offering student-centered, holistic, data-informed and proactive services for the college community.

 

Essential Job Duties

  • Provides short-term, mental health counseling to currently enrolled post-secondary students whose personal issues are affecting their quality of life, academic success, and/or work performance.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of Counseling Services-sponsored outreach activities for the Ozarks Tech  community.
  • Assists in developing and maintaining a networking relationship with mental health and substance use counseling providers in the community.
  • Provides crisis intervention for emergencies within the college community.
  • Works alongside Student Care Team members to review reports of concern from the college community, collaborates on best practice interventions and serves students whose reports indicate mental health or substance use concerns.
  • Provides mental health consultation services for members of the college community.
  • Uses data to inform best practice services.
  • Exhibits exemplary attendance and punctuality.
  • Complies with college policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned, including attending college functions (e.g., commencement)
  • Serves on Ozarks Tech Councils and committees as requested.
  • Attends community/professional events as requested.
  • Performs assigned responsibilities, duties, and tasks according to established practices, procedures, techniques, and standards in a safe manner and with minimal supervision.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Master’s degree in Counseling, Social Work or a related field from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning.
  • Provisional Licensed Professional Counselor or related provisional licensed mental health professional in the state of Missouri.
  • Demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively with all constituencies of a diverse community college.
  • Demonstrated outstanding leadership and management skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to use information technology for professional productivity, including word processing, electronic communications, databases, spreadsheets and presentations.

 

Preferred Knowledge Skills & Abilities

  • Licensed Professional Counselor or related licensed mental health professional in the state of Missouri
  • Experience working in college counseling at the community college.
  • Experience with the development and implementation of collegiate prevention programming, including the following areas: sexual assault, domestic violence and stalking; substance use; bystander intervention; behavioral intervention team initiative.
  • Experience with Colleague.
  • Experience in planning and hosting outreach events
  • Experience in utilizing social media platforms for student communications
  • Experience in Canva or similar design software
