JOB TITLE:  OPERATIONS SUPERVISOR                                                                     DEPARTMENT:  ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICES

SALARY RANGE:  $60,000 – $70,000                                                                         FLSA:  EXEMPT

 

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: College Director of Facility Operations

SCHEDULE DETAILS:  Full-time/12 month position/PEERS

 

Position Summary

The Springfield Campus Operations Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily maintenance operations, ensuring facilities and equipment are maintained in safe, efficient working conditions. This role supervises a team of maintenance staff and coordinates work schedules, preventative maintenance programs, and repair projects. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with a strong technical background and proven experience in maintenance coordination.

 

Essential Job Duties

  • Supervise, schedule, and coordinate the activities of maintenance staff, including assigning daily tasks, monitoring performance, and providing guidance.
  • Ensure timely completion of preventative maintenance and repair work for building systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, etc.).
  • Maintain inventory of tools, supplies, and parts; order replacements as necessary to prevent downtime.
  • Respond to emergency maintenance issues and ensure corrective actions are implemented effectively and promptly.
  • Conduct regular facility inspections to identify maintenance needs and ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations.
  • Maintain records of all maintenance work, including work orders, inspections, and equipment logs.
  • Provide training to maintenance staff on equipment operations, safety practices, and technical procedures.
  • Collaborate with contractors and vendors for specialized repairs, renovations, or equipment servicing.
  • Enforce applicable laws and regulations, i.e. Fire protection, OSHA, ADA, IBC, NEC, EPA, DNR, etc.
  • Participate in budget planning by providing input on maintenance needs, equipment upgrades, and staffing.
  • Develop and implement long-range maintenance plans that include capital improvement projects and equipment replacement.
  • Lead initiatives for continuous improvement in maintenance processes to optimize operations.
  • Appraise employee performance, conduct informal counseling on work issues, prepare documentation and improvement plans for deficiencies, and recommend performance recognition and disciplinary action.
  • Assist with development and implementation of environmentally sustainable policies and procedures.
  • Exhibit exemplary attendance and punctuality.
  • Comply with college policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including attending college functions, serving on committees, and attending community events. 

Non-Essential Job Duties

  • Assist in planning and executing special facility projects, such as space renovations, landscaping improvements, or energy-saving initiatives.
  • Represent the maintenance department in interdepartmental meetings or community outreach events, as needed.
  • Assist other departments with setup and support for special events or emergency responses.
  • Occasionally perform hands-on maintenance tasks during peak periods or when short-staffed.
  • Stay current on industry best practices and attend relevant workshops or conferences as approved.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or technical certification preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in facility maintenance, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or lead role.
  • Strong knowledge of building systems, including electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical.
  • Ability to read blueprints, technical manuals, and schematics.
  • Effective leadership, problem-solving, and time management skills.
  • Proficient with maintenance software, Microsoft Office, and inventory tracking tools.
  • Strong communication skills to interact with team members, contractors, and stakeholders.

 

Preferred Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Bachelor's degree in plant engineering, facilities management, or a related field from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning.
  • Five years of experience in personnel management.
  • Professional experience related to facilities and ground management.
  • Experience with Colleague.
  • Experience working within a collegiate setting.
