SALARY RANGE: $60,000 - $80,000 FLSA: EXEMPT
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Associate Vice Chancellor for Administrative Services
SCHEDULE DETAILS: Full-time/12 month position/PSRS
Position Summary
The College Director of Recreation and Fitness at Ozarks Tech is a dynamic and integral member of the college team, responsible for the comprehensive oversight and daily operations of the campus fitness center and the development and execution of recreational and wellness programs. This position plays a pivotal role in fostering a vibrant, healthy, and engaging campus environment by promoting physical activity, holistic well-being, and community engagement among students, faculty, and staff. The College Director will lead a team of staff, ensure compliance with safety standards, and collaborate with campus partners to deliver high-quality recreational and wellness opportunities.
Essential Job Duties
- Oversee the daily operations of the fitness center, ensuring all equipment is maintained, policies are enforced, and safety standards are upheld.
- Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate staff responsible for fitness center operations, equipment check-out, maintenance, and laundry.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, implement safety protocols, report incidents, and maintain accurate accident records.
- Develop and manage intramural sports leagues, tournaments, and one-time athletic competitions tailored to student interests.
- Assist with the development and support of student sports clubs.
- Organize on-campus fitness classes such as yoga, spin, and strength training, including the recruitment and supervision of instructors (part-time staff could be utilized for this).
- Plan, coordinate, and collaborate with other campus departments for wellness workshops on topics such as stress management, nutrition, mental health-friendly fitness, and healthy lifestyle habits.
- Plan and facilitate outdoor adventure programs (hiking, kayaking, rock climbing, and other nature-based excursions).
- Ensure all programming is accessible and meets student and staff needs.
- Ensure all fitness instructors, staff, and participants comply with safety standards and industry best practices.
- Facilitate CPR and First Aid certifications for faculty, staff, and students as needed.
- Manage department and program budgets, monitor expenditures, and ensure fiscal responsibility for all recreation and wellness initiatives.
- Develop and implement marketing and promotional strategies to increase participation in fitness, recreation, and wellness programs.
- Collect and analyze data on program participation, user satisfaction, and outcomes to inform continuous improvement and reporting.
- Maintain accurate records of equipment inventory, equipment lifecycle, maintenance logs, and program statistics.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Bachelor's degree in Recreation Management, Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Physical Education, Sports Management, or a related field from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning.
- Minimum of 1-2 years of progressively responsible experience in fitness center operations, recreation programming, or student activities, preferably in a college setting.
- Demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively with all constituencies of a college community.
- Outstanding organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work well with others and foster a collaborative environment.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to use information technology for professional productivity (such as Microsoft Office Suite and recreation management software).
- Knowledge of current health and safety regulations pertinent to fitness and recreation facilities.
- Current CPR and First Aid certifications.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Master's degree in a related field.
- Nationally recognized fitness certification (e.g., ACE, ACSM, NSCA).
- Experience with Ellucian Colleague or similar student information systems.
- Experience working within a collegiate setting.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT: (The conditions herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.)
Environment: Work is performed in a fitness center setting, office environment, and various indoor and outdoor recreational spaces. May require an adjustment of schedule to include some evenings and/or weekends for events and programming. May encounter occasional exposure to inclement weather during outdoor activities.
Physical: Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an active environment; to stand, walk, bend, lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight (up to 50 lbs.) frequently; to operate office and fitness equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination, including use of a computer keyboard. Ability to supervise and actively participate in various physical activities.
