IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: College Director of Adult Education & Literacy

SCHEDULE DETAILS: Full-time/11-month position/PSRS/This is grant-funded with a limited term appointment.

 

Position Summary

Responsible to the College Director of Adult Education & Literacy for developing and delivering academic instruction and workforce training to adult learners. The position combines adult basic education (ABE), adult secondary education (ASE), or English language acquisition with occupational skills training to prepare students for employment, postsecondary education, and industry recognized credentials. The position remains current in AEL Certification and engages in department and college-wide committees and assignments. The instructor will be assigned a minimum of 12 hours of classroom instruction weekly each semester.   

 

Essential Instructor Job Duties

  • Deliver integrated instruction that combines academic skills (reading, writing, math, digital literacy) with workforce training content.
  • Collaborate with career and technical education instructors to align curriculum and instructional strategies.
  • Develop lesson plans that contextualize academic content within career pathway.
  • Plan and conduct orientations and pre/post testing using TABE 13/14 or CASAS STEPS assessment tools.
  • Meet with students individually to create a plan of study to help them meet their educational goals.
  • Monitor student progress and communicate results to each student in a positive manner.
  • Provide differentiated instruction to meet diverse learning needs.
  • Instruct students in developing workforce preparation skills, including communication, teamwork, and problem-solving.
  • Support students in career exploration and transition to employment or postsecondary education.
  • Assist AEL Director in scheduling class sessions for part-time instructors and assist with teaching those sessions.
  • Communicate and collaborate with part-time instructors to strategize ways to meet and exceed annual DESE performance standards.
  • Assist part-time instructors in the use of classroom technology and mentor newly certified AEL instructors.
  • Monitor student folders, assessments, and DESE data reports.
  • Maintain and submit student enrollment and testing paperwork to the Ozarks Tech-AEL department monthly.
  • Assist with the development and selection of instructional materials.
  • Communicate student issues or concerns, including disciplinary issues, with appropriate personnel while maintaining student confidentiality.
  • Utilize computer software such as Trac Cloud, DRC, Burlington English, Essential Education and other educational software.
  • Refer students and maintain written documentation of referrals to other partner agencies.
  • Travel to local OTC-AEL sites.
  • Maintain AEL certification.
  • Attend 20 hours per year of approved professional development.
  • Exhibit exemplary attendance and punctuality.
  • Comply with college policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including attending college functions, serving on committees and attending community events.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning.
  • Adult Education and Literacy Certification (or ability to become certified within 90 days).
  • Teaching experience in reading, math, and language.
  • Ability to travel to other OTC locations as needed.
  • Ability to work on several projects, each in a different stage of development.
  • Ability to work well with others.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to use information technology for professional productivity (such as Microsoft Office Suite).

 

Preferred Knowledge Skills & Abilities

  • Master’s degree in a related field from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning.
  • Experience working within a collegiate setting.
  • Prior teaching experience working in adult education.
  • Experience with unique and creative teaching methods.
  • Leadership experience.
