Position Summary
The Business Development Specialist works with area employers to identify their workforce training needs and connect them with the right training solutions. This role builds employer relationships, finds new business opportunities, and manages the training process end-to-end — from initial meetings and proposals through coordinating logistics and delivery. The specialist also maintains a portfolio of employer clients, nurtures ongoing partnerships, and works to meet business and revenue goals.
Essential Job Duties
- Serve as the point of contact for local employers seeking workforce training solutions.
- Support the delivery customized training programs at employer sites or college facilities.
- Support new program delivery to meet the changing needs of the regional workforce.
- Meet directly with companies to assess training needs and match them with appropriate instructional solutions.
- Assist in developing training outlines and scopes of work in response to employer requests.
- Schedule classes, secure instructors, and coordinate space, equipment, and materials for training sessions.
- Work closely with instructors and Business Development Manager to ensure delivery of high-quality, hands-on training that aligns with employer expectations.
- Track participation, gather feedback, and follow up with employers to ensure satisfaction and identify future needs.
- Develop pricing and proposals for customized training contracts.
- Regularly visit job sites, shop floors, and training locations to support active programs.
- Maintain accurate and timely information in client relationship software.
- Actively participate in prospecting potential industry partners resulting in net new opportunities.
- Support recruiting efforts for new instructors and subject matter experts.
- Exhibit exemplary attendance and punctuality.
- Comply with college policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned, including attending college functions, serving on committees, and attending community events, when necessary.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Associate's degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning.
- Demonstrated interest or experience in sales, account management, or customer service.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently.
- Ability to work well with others.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to use information technology for professional productivity (such as Microsoft Office Suite and CRM software).
Preferred Knowledge Skills & Abilities
- Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning.
- One to two years of related experience in sales, business development, or account management.
- Demonstrated experience with Salesforce CRM software.
- Experience with Colleague.
- Experience working within a collegiate setting.

Environment: Work is performed primarily in a standard office setting with frequent interruptions and distractions. Requires extended periods of time viewing computer monitor or standing; may require adjustment of schedule to include some evening and/or weekends; may encounter occasional exposure to inclement weather during travel.
Physical: Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard.
